„Playing with an orchestra is completely different from the feeling of being alone on stage. It’s a challenge, it’s something beautiful. Imagine a single violin replacing an entire ensemble, an orchestra. So I will have to fulfill all functions alone. It’s something I can’t wait to try, to present to the audience, especially to our home audience. I don’t know, I don’t think I would have attempted this anywhere else. It’s very good that it’s happening at home, because I will need this support and I will enjoy this extremely special event together with you, with all those who will listen to these concerts.” (violinist Liviu Prunaru)

Starting from Bucharest, Liviu Prunaru will perform five additional concerts in cities such as Iași, Bistrița, Brașov, Ploiești, and Craiova.

Liviu Prunaru left Romania 35 years ago, and for 18 of those years, he served as concertmaster of one of the world’s finest orchestras, the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

In 1990, violinist Liviu Prunaru, then 21 years old and a student at the Bucharest Conservatory, left for a summer course in Switzerland. From that moment, it was only a matter of time before he became an international artist. His teachers were violinist Yehudi Menuhin (a former student of George Enescu) and Alberto Lysy (with whom he performed Bach’s Double Concerto for Pope John Paul II).

In 2006, he became the concertmaster of the famous Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, playing a Stradivarius violin provided by the orchestra for 18 years.

Between numerous solo tours around the world and his work as a violin professor at the „Menuhin” Academy in Switzerland, he always found time to return and play in Romania.

Since 2011, he has annually hosted the Violin Duel tour, alongside violinist Gabriel Croitoru and pianist Horia Mihail.
